i will be the first to announce to the room that i am an excessive picture taker. if anything remotely beautiful catches my eye, my phone is out and i'm snapping. later scrutiny will determine if a photograph makes it onto my instagram, and most of the time, i have to scroll through 25 photos of the same thing before settling on something that looks near identical to all the images before and after it. it was something that i felt strangely compelled to challenge when i first moved to new york in the fall of 2016. my aggressive love of taking photos of pretty things came full halt when i realized moments of no notoriety were not only being documented but scrutinized over. if a photo is worth a thousand words, the images i was capturing were maybe 3 words apiece and constructed of barely literate sentences. maybe a little harsh? you get the point.
i, annoyed at self, decided to purchase my first fujifilm disposable.
2 years later: i am happy to report that it is one of my favorite things to look back on! the shots i have taken and developed sit in a neat little stack in a special book and i page through them often. looking at the vibrant and muted colors transports me to moments: swimming pools, belly laughs, afternoon light, city parts that make me swoon. – it has become my most favorite "little life decision." the photos i've taken on these disposables (currently on my fourth, ever!). it has challenged my eye for beautiful things, and trained my eye to look for the thing i want to remember most.
swung by the drugstore today to pick up the camera i shot with in february and i am so thrilled with the shots and decided to include a few of them in a post because, well, why not?
